Hitting ‘the Wall’
This year saw the inaugural running of ’The Wall”, a 24 hour, 69 mile race from Carlisle to the Millenium Bridge. Billed by organiser Urban Rat as “the UK’s most scenic ultra” it was always going to be a tempting race, even with the … Continue reading

A runner’s dilemma
As far as running goes this year can be summed up in a single word for me, Dilemma. The dictionary defines a dilemma as a situation necessitating a choice between two equal, or equally undesirable alternatives to a problem that … Continue reading

Racking up my first fifty
The plan was simple run as many laps of a 10 mile circuit as I could… furthest I’d ran up until this point was 32 miles…but with a the right playlist and a good supply of jelly babies could i make it 50. Continue reading
Choosing my next big challenge.
Last year I went from running the odd marathon to tackling something altogether bigger, the Himalayan 100, a 100 mile multi day stage race at altitude. But could I follow an event like that?
Some might say that my choice is a completely crazy idea, not only will it see me running further than i have ever ran, but it will involve running more climbing than i’ve ever done and will see us running through the night twice, if we stay the distance. Continue reading

Arriving in India
Stepping off the plane into the Sunshine of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport , it seemed i’d come a very long way since signing up to run the 100 mile Himalayan Stage Race six months earlier, and I don’t just mean the 30 hours of travel it had taken to get this far.

Himalayan 100 Miles: Day2 (a run with a view)
It got dark around 6pm, and most of the runners were tucked up in their beds by 7pm. I didn’t have the best of nights sleep. I’d been up several times in the night with an upset stomach, and with … Continue reading

Himalayan 100 Miles: Day3 (the marathon)
It was another early morning with the race starting at 6, an hour earlier than yesterday. One advantage of not feeling up to eating was i got to stay in bed that little bit longer. I just managed a cup … Continue reading

Himalayan 100 Miles: Day4 (along the road)
I woke up feeling like i could actually face breakfast for the first time in three days, i’d slept well and was raring to go. Today was to be a relatively easy day, having come down from the higher altitude … Continue reading
