A very big idea.

Following a holiday to Egypt last summer, when I ran in the desert around the resort almost every day, I realised that there really was a possibility that with some serious training I could take on a race like the Marathon De Sables.

One look at the internet when I got home put pay to that idea, De Sables is booked two to three years in advance and costs well over four thousand pounds and that is without the flights and transfer to get there or the gear i’d need, which is just a little out of my league.

Part of the season that I wanted to do the Marathon De Sables in 2010, was the thought that now that i’m in my forties if i don’t do it now I never will. Another reason was that i’d always said I would do something like this in support of Gynaecology Cancer, since my mam (Elizabeth) and my mother in law (Brenda) pasted away. So i wasn’t about to give up on the big idea, and together with my wife Lucinda i started to look for other races that might be suitable.

After a lot of searching we’ve managed to find a 100km race in Egypt, only about 75km from where i ran last summer. The Race called the 7 tribes, has places available for this year, its just about affordable and some of the proceeds go toward creating wells providing water to the desert nomads.

So it looks like the run could be on….
