What’s it all for?

I guess that some of you may be wondering why on Earth, I would want to travel 1/2 way around the world to spend 5 days slogging my way up some of the toughest hills on the planet.

The answer is simple, there are big motives for me to take on this challenge. The first and most important is to raise money for 2 great causes, ‘The EVE Appeal‘ and ‘Macmillan Cancer Support‘. The second reason is entirely selfish, I have always been an outdoorsy kind of person enjoying running and hill walking, so while it will be incredibly tough and it won’t exactly be a luxury break, the opportunity to spend 8 days travelling to India and Nepal and to run in the Himilayas something that’s just too good not to do.

So why support ’The EVE Appeal‘ and ‘Macmillan Cancer Support‘, well both are fantastic causes, and after my mam and Lucinda’s mam both died of Gynaecological Cancers, we really wanted to do something to help raise money for them.

Every year a million women  are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer worldwide.  In the UK, 18,000 women are diagnosed and nearly 7,500 women die every year. And yet, awareness and funding of gynaecological cancers remains low.

The Eve Appeal focus on funding vital research, developing effective methods of prediction, detection, treatment and care that will help save women’s lives not only in the UK but throughout the world. Of course world-leading research is complicated and challenging but their vision is simple: To create a future where fewer women develop and more women survive gynaecological cancers.

While developing cures and means of detecting cancer is crutial, unfortunately it may come too late for those people affected by Cancer today. Which is where McMillan Cancer Support come in. The McMillan nurse’s that helped my mam when she wasn’t well were nothing less than brilliant. Macmillan work to improves the lives of people affected by cancer. Providing practical, medical and financial support and pushing for better cancer care.

Cancer affects us all, and we can all do something to help, some of us finding cures, some caring for the sick, others by running up mountains, or making donations.
