Hitting ‘the Wall’

This year saw the inaugural running  of  ’The Wall”, a 24 hour, 69 mile race from Carlisle to the Millenium Bridge. Billed by organiser Urban Rat as “the UK’s most scenic ultra” it was always going to be a tempting race, even with the … Continue reading

Facing my first 100

Its 8.30 in the morning on the 29th of July, a day that I have been preparing for for the last 7 months. I have butterflies in my stomach just thinking about what lies ahead of me. In 9 hours … Continue reading

Discovering the benefits of sports massage

It might be because I’m getting older, or because I’m training more and resting less or even because I’m running further and faster than I’ve ever ran, but I’m currently carrying several injuries, and they just don’t seem to be getting any … Continue reading

Taking the rough with the smooth

Over the past year, my running has improved dramatically, I’ve moved on from coming in the last few places at most of my races to finishing towards the middle of the pack. My 5k time is under 20 minutes and … Continue reading

Choosing my next big challenge.

Last year I went from running the odd marathon to tackling something altogether bigger, the Himalayan 100, a 100 mile multi day stage race at altitude. But could I follow an event like that?

Some might say that my choice is a completely crazy idea, not only will it see me running further than i have ever ran, but it will involve running more climbing than i’ve ever done and will see us running through the night twice, if we stay the distance. Continue reading

My second park run

I heard about Park Run earlier this year, and although i’m not really a 5k runner, preferring longer distances and a more off road style of running, i thought i’d give it ago. If nothing else it would be a … Continue reading

Himalayan 100 Miles: Day1 (the hills)

In the first of what would be a series of early mornings, the alarm went off at just gone 4. We rose in darkness, carefully putting on the kit that we’d prepared the night before. Taking only what we needed … Continue reading

Himalayan 100 Miles: Day2 (a run with a view)

It got dark around 6pm, and most of the runners were tucked up in their beds by 7pm. I didn’t have the best of nights sleep. I’d been up several times in the night with an upset stomach, and with … Continue reading
