Running books

I’ve always saw myself as the kind of person that went out and did stuff rather than the reading about it or watched it on TV. I rarely even read papers let alone the sports sections. So I think I was as surprised as anyone when I looked back and realised just how many running books i’d managed to read. The majority of these books have been received as gifts and possibly would never have been the ind of book I would have bought for myself, but in their own way most have affected my running. A runner’s dilemma

As far as running goes this year can be summed up in a single word for me, Dilemma. The dictionary defines a dilemma as a situation necessitating a choice between two equal, or equally undesirable alternatives to a problem that … Continue reading

Allendale 2011

The Allendale Challenge is one of my favourite races, its beautiful, tough, local and this year it was gloriously sunny. Its on of those must do event, but being in early April it can go from snow one year to heat stroke the next, last year i’d ran a PB at 5.22 this year i was aiming for anything under 6 hours, but much to my own surprise i put in a 4.37 knocking 45 minutes of last year and coming in the top 1/3, something of a first for me. Choosing my next big challenge.

Last year I went from running the odd marathon to tackling something altogether bigger, the Himalayan 100, a 100 mile multi day stage race at altitude. But could I follow an event like that?

Some might say that my choice is a completely crazy idea, not only will it see me running further than i have ever ran, but it will involve running more climbing than i’ve ever done and will see us running through the night twice, if we stay the distance. Continue reading
